This drawing shows the locking changes and extra works in connection with the provision of Padnal's down main intermediate block.

Mile End level crossing was protected by slots on the up and down IBs. The crossing was converted to AHB in 1967. The IBs were removed at this time.

The area to the right of the diagram is where the up main intermediate block was located. The IB section was added to cope with the traffic increase following the closure of the M&GN
