The rails were dressed with a rather brutal file across the heads to provide a corrugation so there is a nice 'rumble as a train passes over.. Photo taken during a possesion. still in situ at an accomodation crossing... the line closed in August 1966 one month before i was born.. A short works train stands on the new trestle. It is based on the bridges between Huntingdon and St Ives. I'll hopefully be able to add the deck and railings soon. With the commisioning of the new return loop that is carried over the pond on two timber trestles the old loop was disconnected at this end. I had to apply jumpers to feed this section however. There is another reverse loop module nearby and that used the same feed as this one... I bought these spikes whilst still at school.. It's amazing i could remember where i'd stashed them..

This diagram includes the down main intermediate block, Mile End crossing ground frame and Duck Drove Siding, the scene of an incident mentioned in one of Gerard Fiennes books involving a tow rope and a signal... This is my first attempt with a scanner and joining the images... This drawing shows the locking changes and extra works in connection with the provision of Padnal's down main intermediate block. Mile End level crossing was protected by slots on the up and down IBs. The crossing was converted to AHB in 1967. The IBs were removed at this time. The area to the right of the diagram is where the up main intermediate block was located. The IB section was added to cope with the traffic increase following the closure of the M&GN

This is a rather magnificent device. When a release is given and the switch release plunger is pressed the switch jumps to the mid position. The signalman then turns the switch to 'trolley on line' and then press token release to release the Yale lock on the trolley token... This was the first type of AHB crossing indicator. I can usually work out how connect instruments correctly but this one threw me for a while. I did a 'best guess' and had it working on the shelf but i knew it wasn't right. During the time i was trying to work out how the unit worked i never would of guessed t3 needed a permanant feed to, in effect, turn POR into a polar relay The two relays at the signalbox end. The picture was taken just after installation. The wiring is a little neater now..... Where on earth was this instrument used? This has really got me thinking. It provided two full evenings of fun making a correlation sketch and checking it all worked. Pictures of the plunging units are posted with the owners consent.. I call this a result. It was at auction in a lot described as 'two telephone plus another'.. In fact it is a trolley token from the M&GN. The best £40 i've spent for a long time. This is most likely the instrument featured in the circuit diagram. The M&GN became a frieght only line to Sutton after closure to passengers. Key token working was introduced for a short time until final closure. This circuit takes some thinking about... The relays to take the double plunging unit work.. 4 ohm neutrol polar, 2x 250 neutrol polar, 4 six 1000 ohm shelf types, 2 4way 1000 ohm shelf types and a 10 ohm polar.. Surely this has to be a record for just one instrument? There is about another 20 plug in relays used to simulate the three token machines outside, including mag latches, twins, and wjr timers... I'm cheating for Sutton at the moment and using a no signalman key token circuit there until i build a machine to represent a signalman type instrument.. It's kept me off the streets for a few weeks,,
